Lino Cervar after victory over Czech Republic: Handball deserves a change of rules!

Lino Cervar played against the Czech Republic as he announced the last time he led the Croatian national team. Croatia won the 5th place in the EURU with a victory over Czech Republic (28:27).

The Croatian Handball National Team has appealed to the European and International Handball Federation to „finally change the rules“ and to abolish the free judicial assessment that directly influences victory or defeat.

„I appeal to the European and International Handball Federation to finally change the rules and to abolish the subjective assessment of judges who directly decide on victory or defeat,“ said Cervar.

He said that Croatia was not judged as a host in the European Championship, but like every other national team, and that he would like to continue this trend in the next competitions.

– But, I think that handball deserves a change in the rules and it’s time for amateurs to stop deciding the fate of professionals. The subjective assessment of the judges should be abolished, and this refutation of the trainers by the judges is disputed by me. It is time for the EHF and IHF to do something, and if necessary, the International Olympic Committee, because only in a handball team can not win better – said Cervar.

„For starters, a rule on the limited time for the attack should be introduced, and not only the judges decide, and the rule of breaking into the attack,“ he added.

Cervar said his team failed to achieve their plan at the European Championship, or to qualify for the semifinals.

– With all the mistakes I made as a coach, I was always dedicated to this team. Therefore, once again I thank all my players and fans – said Cervar, who ends the EP with the ending of the contract and where he announced the end of the Croatian national team and possibly more than a rich coaching career.
