The Croatian Handball Federation and Sportske novosti nurture and preserve the selection of the best at the end of each year in four categories – the best handball player, the best handball player, the best coach and a pair of referees. The jury consists of selectors, leaders of HRS, SN, and sports handball journalists.
BEST COACH – LINO ČERVAR
When someone not only returns the national team among the medal winners, but brings it to the finals after ten years, then everything is clear here as well. The selector of the Croatian men’s senior national team, Lino Červar, is like wine, the older the better. He will say more experienced, smarter. He found his „magic“ again in Graz, Vienna and finally in Stockholm, led the national team fantastically and outsmarted everyone except Spain and brought Croatia its sixth medal from the European Championships. It remains a pity for the gold, but Lini is only 70th. By the way, this is his eleventh time that he has been chosen as the best Croatian coach. It should be said that the jury of this election consists of the leaders of the Croatian Handball Federation and Sportske novosti and selectors, and not sports journalists.
SPECIAL RECOGNITION OF HRS – NENAD ŠOŠTARIĆ
By winning a bronze medal at the European Championship in Denmark, the first in the history of Croatian women’s handball in a major competition, the selector of the national team, Nenad Šoštarić, deserved special recognition from the Croatian Handball Federation. The very fact that this is the first such recognition in the 27 years of the election speaks volumes about how much the Federation wants its coach and the results it has achieved. Croatian handball players won the hearts of everyone with their fantastic performances, fighting spirit and a smile that will not be forgotten for a long time. And the creator of that handball miracle, many will say the biggest surprise in the history of European handball championships was Mr. Nenad Sostaric.
