Croatian men’s senior national team coach Lino Cervar has announced a list of players for the upcoming national action that will take place from April 2 to April 7. In this week, the Croatian national team, apart from training, will also go to Sweden where they will play two matches against European champions.
Lino Červar announced the action of the national team in 2018 and thanked everyone who contributed to the work with the national team in 2017 and at the European Championship:
– The year after the Euro, on which we did not fulfill our dreams, is very important because we have three important actions. The most important are the qualifications for the World Cup against Montenegro. Especially demanding are the qualifications in October for the European Championship 2020. The third task is the Mediterranean Games in June in Spain. In addition to this, two friendly matches against Sweden in the beginning of April will come as preparations. Of course, all the thoughts are focused on June and the qualifications for the World Cup, and this first gathering will be an attempt to establish the start of preparations for everything that awaits us. The team is open, never closed, and new people are always looking for, regardless of this list of 27 players we have published. As far as the expert staff is concerned, I would like to thank the expert staff who worked on preparations and at the European Championship. To everyone who contributed to the work. We all did our best. We have some changes in the headquarters because some of the trainers are preoccupied with their club obligations, but the idea is that the expert staff will be reduced. Not because they were not good, but because we had the opportunity as hosts to have more people. Changing an expert staff is also part of our vision.
The first assistant coach is Davor Dominikovic, my former player, and I saw him in the coach who lives for a handball and who wants to give up this job. Director of the team Igor Vori, who will stop playing with this season and will actively participate in the work of the national team. I do not think I have to spend too much of words on him and about what he has won. Coach of the goalkeeper will be Mirko Bašić, to whom I thank him for accepting this role and what he wants to contribute to the national team, he discovered new names in the expert staff selector Červar.
Finally, a few words said the new assistant coach of the national team, Davor Dominikovic:
– I was surprised when they invited me to join the national team as an assistant coach. It is a great honor, but it is a great obligation for all of us. I have a short experience of working as an assistant coach to the Government School in Dubrava. I would like to thank everyone in Dubrava with whom I have been cooperating for the past eight months. I am aware of the responsibility that this position in the national team brings. We face very high demands and challenges.
