After four years of fasting, the women’s national team of Norway won gold again in a big competition. The title at the European Championship in Denmark is the seventh in the collection of coach Torir Hergeirson. The 56-year-old expert came to the position of coach in 2009 instead of the legendary Marit Breivik, who won six gold medals from 1995 to 2009.
By winning the fourth gold at the European Championships this December in Herning, Hergeirson surpassed his predecessor, as he climbed the podium for the seventh time with his handball players when it comes to all major competitions.
Norwegian media are already talking about knowing the successor of the trophy-winning Icelander – according to sources from the north of Europe, it should be his assistant and former national team member Tonje Larsen, who, according to the plan, should take over the baton in 2024.
