The selector of the Macedonian national team, Danilo Brestovac, shortened the list from the original 35 to 19 names he is counting on in the qualifying matches for Euro 2022 with Finland and Switzerland.
Macedonia will host Finland on November 4, and three days later it will host Switzerland. Denmark is also in this group.
– We are in a specific situation due to the coronavirus, we are waiting for what will happen, primarily with foreigners. If someone cancels, we will fill the lineup with home players. For now, everyone has announced that they are coming, but you can’t be clear with this virus, you never know. This is an abbreviated list that was made a few days ago. It is important that, in case of unwanted dismissals, I have someone to fill the team with. We depend a lot on the crown – said the selector Brestovac.
Macedonia is a big favorite in Skopje against Finland.
– The duel with Finland in Skopje will not be easy, because nothing is easy in handball nowadays. We have to admit that everyone knows how to play. According to our list, we can see that we are entering the trend of rejuvenation, and I expect that to continue. Everyone who plays against Finland must give their best. Maybe all the players from the list do not have very special minutes in their clubs, but now they have the opportunity to show themselves. I must point out that no player who was not on the shortened list was written off from the national team – concluded the Macedonian coach.
